Brrrrrr....

We’ve had some artic weather recently here in the southern hemisphere. With no central heating my house can remain quite cold esp. at night and in the mornings. Last year prior to my blogging debut I came up with this post; by the time I actually started blogging we were headed into spring so it wasn’t relevant.
So without further ado…

You know it is cold when…
  • Prior to pouring your morning coffee you have to rinse the mug under warm water so the coffee won’t break the mug. (I lost 2 mugs last year)
  • The ground meat you took out of the freezer to thaw is still frozen solid 3 hours later.
  • Upon arising in the morning you can see your breath and you haven’t stepped out of the house.
  • The butter that is left on the counter to keep soft (married into that one) is harder than the butter in the frig.
  • Your hair spritzer won’t come out of the pump because it is partially frozen.
  • You’re excited to cook dinner because the oven heats up the kitchen.
  • Winter coat, gloves and scarf are a part of your daily attire regardless of whether you are in or out of the house.
  • Your 2 year old refuses to potty train because “it is toooo cowd (cold) Mommy”.
  • People ask you if you are expecting because you have a hot water bottle shoved under your coat making a preggie bulge.
  • You make sure your heaters are on a long lease (extension cord) so they can travel with you around the house.
  • You refuse to endure the “morning wee” until a heater has been taken into the bathroom to heat it up.
  • Your nickname is “Ice woman” because your extremities always feel like ice…..at least that is what they are telling me.
So if the summer temps are getting too hot for you come on over as I can assure you, you WILL cool off!

Wow! I think I'll be thankful for our hot weather today instead of complaining about it. You put things into perspective for me!

Sorry pal, I'd love to feel bad, but you must remember how you plastered pictures in front of our faces of bright summer days while we all froze during our winter here in the states?

I'm trying to squeeze out a tear for you :)

wait - are you SERIOUS?!? Those things really happen to you? Because that is so so so sad. I hate being cold more than ANYTHING!!! Give me humidity and sweat anyday - and people say "you can bundle up when it's cold, but you can only take off so much when it's hot." That may be true, but I'll take shorts and a tank top ANYDAY...

Yikes! We had a good heating system when we lived in Montana, but we always kept it COLD at night. Also when the power bills would get high, we'd keep it cooler--I can relate to some of the things on your list, but I've never really been without the OPTION of turning on the heat!

We leave our butter on the counter too. I hate it when ppl put it "away" in the frig. But in your case, it would probably be a good thing. Actually, it's so humid here today that the butter is almost like soup! Grass is always greener... well, not really in this case. I'd choose hot over cold!

Poor gull

Loved this post though.

ooo!! I don't envy you. I wonder what little tricks there are that they did back in the day when we didn't have central heat and ac? I'm trying to think if I learned anything from reading the Little House on the Prairie series...I got nothing except putting hot bricks at the end of the bed to keep the feet warm. But you can't really do that if you don't have a fireplace! :)

Oh, I feel for ya girl! I really hate to be cold and winter can get pretty miserable for me, but our house is always warm. I can't imagine having to be cold in your own home. Sending warm wishes your way!

It FINALLY stopped raining here (I think) and is trying to break 100 today. Wish it were easy to drop by for a couple of hours. : )

Been there. Done that. (We had a wicked draft this past winter. Of course the rest of the house was nice and toasty.)

You know I prefer the cool or cold weather to hot temperatures any day. Yes, I wish I was there. It got up to almost 90 degrees here in NYC today. I hated it.

Hilarious and sad at the same time!!! Your coffee broke your mugs b/c they were too cold? That is just tragic.

SA- discover central heat! It's a divine gift from above!!! ;-)
