Guess what came to SA...

What could be better than mounds of cinnamon and butter enrobed in a warm gooey, sticky bun with frosting on top? Okay for me Starbucks would be better however I am quite elated with the new arrival!

If you lived overseas (or if you do live overseas) what American delight would/do you miss?

After hearing about squatty potties in China, I think I would even miss Karen's potty, hehe. I hope you read her post about the potty pitstop :)

What is it with both you and Ginger today posting something about food I CAN'T EAT because of my @#!!%& diet?!

Well, we don't live overseas but in Florida and are missing our Bohemian food - especially duck and dumplings. We've been checking out the Cech restaurants so we can indulge when we go to Illinois with Andy & family this summer. I know Michelle not your favorite food (where were you raised anyway?) We also miss the Italian beef sandwiches which we will also get while in Chicago area.
Love those CinABons too.

Oh, my gosh, Michelle. Your mom sounds like she's from my dad's family. He's Czech and from Chicago. Loves pork, dumplings, and saurkraut and all the heavy junk food like Italian sandwiches from Chicago.

He also lives in Florida and found a decent Czech restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale. Maybe your parents should visit and get their dumpling fix!

Ok, back to your question. What would I miss? I'm never happy with the milk I've had in other countries, but that's about it. I've never lived in another country for more than 4 months, so I've never gotten desperate. Enjoy those yummy cinnamon rolls!

Think it depends on where overseas. And I know it doesn't count but spending the past two weeks in El Salvador the one thing I missed was walking. I'm serious. We drove everywhere. We had to. We drove in Andrea's bullet-proof SUV porsche.

Food? I honestly think I'd miss the convenience of having so much variety - conventional and organic groceries and produce. Yes, that'd be it.

Oh, those Cinnabons look so yummy. We don't have one in our town. The nearest one is 3 hours away. So, now I'm craving the gooey goodness. Enjoy them for me. I think I would miss Pizza Hut. I love their pan pizza's. Smell the yummy cheese. Ok, I have to go now. Time for an early, midnight snack. :0)

For the record mom and Deb, I do not nor will I ever miss any of the foods you mentioned. Sorry Mom, the Czech food gene skipped me.

Deb, sounds like our families should meet maybe over Czech food? You and I can eat elsewhere...how about Mexican or Thai? :-)

Not sure what I would miss. When I went to Jamaica they make everything with the Jerk seasoning and that really does something to your insides if you know what I mean! :p I think what I would miss the most is Johnny Carinos. Its in Sioux Falls and taste just like Olive Garden only cheaper! Do they have Diet Coke where you live? That is the one thing I COULD NOT go without!

When I was in Indonesia I really missed Dr. Pepper!!! Then in my 2nd year it finally arrived. I was thrilled. We also got a Subway that year... but it kind of made me sad b/c it represented how the world is all becoming the same. You can find a Chili's in almost every country on the plantet. (well... maybe not SA) I like the fact that we have to adjust to not having everything we want, even though it makes us want it more. It's the missing that makes us realize we really like something.

Am I crazy???

I can't think of a thing! Those cinnabon's are too distracting. :)

Michelle,

Maybe you never tasted the best. What you need to try is my mom's homemade dumplings. They'll stick to your ribs for a week! She's not Czech, but she was trained by her mom-in-law and is now in the category of culinary saint among the Fremers.

Hi! My name is Bobbi Jo. I am an HA alumnni living as a missionary in Norway. The thing that I miss the most is peanut and chocolate, like resee's peanut butter cups. You can find it but often it's waaay too expensive. But I don't think I've tasted a cinnabon in 3 years! Wow, you're lucky!

Soup breadbowls at Panera... Yummmmmm. And, I love snickers, if I didn't have those, it would be tough.

ginger... squatty potties are not back, just hard on the old knees.

bobbi jo... no chocolate and p'butter...now that might be rough!

I am pretty flexible and love food way to much... I think I could adapt to most anything. I enjoyed the food so much in Thailand for 17 days that I really didn't miss anything.

However, when my dad stops raising beef cattle, I will miss red meat.

Hmmmm... I kind of adapt to the food of the area. But, when I lived in Tulsa, I totally craved NY bagels. When I was in India for a few months I craved cold water and baked ziti. Cinnabons aren't something I ever eat, but I'd probably crave them as well. I'm craving them right now after that picture. I think they may be more accessible for you then me at this point. We don't have any fast food places out on the eastern end of Long Island. Regulations! I feel as though I am on the mission field.
