Seeing Clearly

I hate being away from blogging as I feel the ‘return post’ should be a high caliber read (and because I miss you all). Sorry to disappoint but this ‘return post’ will not meet up to caliber standards but may bring a few things into focus (you’ll get that pun as you read on—does my corny humor count for anything?)

A year ago Skyler began to complain that her eyes hurt. I like a good mom held out to see if the “complaint” was legit. When the headaches began to accompany the eye pain we decided it was time for an eye check. After many tests including dilating her eyes, which by the way was really freaky not to mention she kept bumping into things, it was discovered that my nearly 7 year old was a tad farsighted and would require glasses. Now that was a great example of a run-on sentence….didn’t think you would get an English lesson too did ya?

The past few weeks Skyler complained of pretty consistent headaches and technically I was supposed to take her for a check-up anyway. The result...a stronger prescription! Apparently her eyes are getting better yet she required a stronger prescription. Some mumbo jumbo about the eyes still growing…..not sure I understand but anyway. The tech asked Sky if she would like to keep her old glasses or pick out a brand new pair (she emphasized “brand new”). Um, hello she is a female; can you guess what her response was…. Brand new of course!!
Remembering my insurance covered every penny and knowing they would want her to look her best (ha) I decided to give the girl what she wanted.

The interesting thing about picking out the glasses was she seemed to go for a more mature pair last year yet this year she went for the metallic purple with glow in the dark flowers on the side, little girl ones. Despite my attempts to sway her to something different, I must admit she looked good in every pair she put on. She definitely does glasses well.

This is last year's look.....

Now the "new" look (thanks to our friendly health insurance)

I am glad she is seeing much clearer now and she is happy be sporting her new pair of spectacles. After all it is all about fashion now isn't it gals?!

She looks cute. My 12 year old granddaughter just got new red ones. By the way, I'd be really honored if you'd drop by and sign my new Guest Book :o)

Glad you're back.

I love the fashion statement! I'm so glad that the make kids' glasses so stylish nowadays. I had to get glasses when I was 7 and my glasses were bigger than my face, and oh-so-ugly! It was that way until I got contacts in 7th grade. Your Sky looks marvelous, and I'm so happy she can see better!

Hard to believe she has gotten so big! She looks so cute in glasses.

I still fondly remember how everytime she saw Jonathan she would say, "Jaaaaaaay."

I like both pairs! She is cute no matter what! I remember when I was in 3rd grade I picked out these pink frames that had rhinestones in them. My mom TRIED to talk me out of them but of course I didn't listen. I HATED those glasses and still do today! She looks very happy with her choice and very cute!!!

Tres chic!

I recently got new eyeglasses too. I went metallic instead of my usual fake tortoise shell. I love 'em.

How funny, Ben and I spent the morning yesterday at the eye doctor and then off to pick out new glasses. He wanted the same ones he had last year, except a little darker brown (changing the color was his version of getting a little wild). I tried to talk him into something different too, but it was a no go. That's a boy for ya!

Great specs! I first got glasses in 4th grade and believe me -- they were NOT CUTE!! Glasses have come a long way baby! Skylar looks adorable.

Isn't it fun to pick out new glasses?! I love helping little kids get their new glasses.

Lindsey had a pair of purple glasses when she was little. Looking back we are not quite sure why the purple with her auburn hair, but she loved them back in the day :) Now Alicia has purple ones!

We've done every color at our house with three girls in need of glasses and a mom in the eye glasses business.

Happy seeing 20/20 Skyler! Hope you don't have headaches anymore!

None of my kids have needed glasses. But my eyes hurt and I have a headache lately. What do ya think? I also have sinus pain! I've fallin' apart over here.

She looks pretty in her new purple glasses.

I meant to say she only wears them for reading and schoolwork...not all the time.

I'm a 20/20 girl myself but I tell you by the time we left the place I wanted glasses...some really cute frames.

Shonna, the mention of "Ben" gave you away however I did almost fall over that you and Missie commented! Yeah, keep it up! :-)

Sky, I love your new glasses! Now we have one more thing in common. I'm speechless! Miss you lots. I'd love for you to come visit - but maybe we can come see you sometime! -Love, Gracie

Nice choice, Skylar. You've got taste. I'm sure you're the envy of all girls your age.

I think in the near future I may have to get bi-focals or something. Not only do I still wear contacts and glasses (at night) to see things far away, like on-coming traffic, but now I have trouble reading a menu or ingredients on a box or seeing the subway map unless I push it three feet away from my eyes. Wow, this aging thing is fun. Real fun!

purple - adORable. :) I had Lasik ten years ago - am happy to say I am still 20/20. Although yesterday I had to move a map way from my eyes to see the road sign - which of course made me SO freaked out that I tried to read it up close about ten times after that to see how close I could get it and still feel natural...
