What's for dinner?

Things are heating up here, literally. Where most of you are experiencing freezing temperatures we on the other side of the globe are sizzl'in in the summer heat. I expect it to be hot in December and January as that is when temperatures typically soar but with February usually comes some cool relief. So far Feb. has been anything but cool.

What is hot you ask? Well temps have remained in the high 80’s. I know especially my Texas friends are thinking that is not too bad but that is the temp INSIDE and outside. For some reason unknown to me, South African homes do not have air conditioning.

Around 5p.m. yesterday afternoon Blake asked “What’s for dinner”. I shuttered at the thought of turning on my stove and making dinner. Truth be told, I shutter every night, regardless of the temperature, at the thought of making dinner. I know I just blew my Martha Stewart image (ha). For reasons I can only explain as temporary insanity due to an overheated brain I replied, “How about ice-cream?” Blake gave me the ‘what have you done with my mother look’ and responded, “Really?”.

So we hopped in the car and went for ice-cream. I kept telling myself over and over, "Ice-cream is nutritious it has milk in it." However I did make them eat apples and carrots before bed to rid myself of the lingering maternal guilt.

Today is teeming with heat once again…any ideas on what I should do for dinner tonight?

Off the subject, Victoria looks like a mini-me for you! They are all adoreable and I love the side bar photo of them and you! Okay..back to the topic.

Ice cream for supper is totally acceptable. I bet it's the first time no one said, "ooowe, what's in this?", or "do I have to eat ALL of it", or "Yuck, did I just see an onion?", or "frozen pizza again?"....or is my house the only one that hears that?

Eighty degrees inside the house sounds pretty good to me right now, even if it's for just a couple of hours. It's freezing here in South Dakota. Can I come over?

As far as supper, I think you should top their ice cream with fruit and chopped nuts tonight, you know, for variety. For dessert, maybe Heidi Jo can send you one of the frozen pizzas she has in her freezer.

I got to your blog from Aisha's ~ blame her!
Anyway, I noticed that you live in Johannesburg, South Africa...I have a friend who got married there. Well actually her husband's dad was from Johannesburg and his mom was from Minnesota. My friend just moved back to the US from Grahmstown, SA. My point is that I loved hearing her stories of day to day life when they lived there. It was so hard to comprehend the difference in life styles, etc.

You are the coolest mom in the whole world!

I think it is hilarious you made them eat carrots when they got home:-) Are you like me? When Rod is out of town I don't tend to make real dinners because it is just too exhausting after a day of solo parenting.

I sure could go for some warm weather here! I still see snow!

Maybe you could mix it up a little tonight and serve popsicles! :)

Peanut butter and jelly wouldn't be so bad either!

You are great! I would have stopped at the ice cream :) How about ass cake for tonight. Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
Alicia would say, "Broccoli, carrots, nuts, and juice"...BORING!

We always enjoy strawberry shortcake for dinner every once-in-a-while. Can you get strawberries? I usually bae the biscuits, but rather than turn on the oven fresh ass cake would suffice.

How about sushi? (yuck)

In college, my favorite snack was raviolis, right out of the can!

Okay it cracks me up that the A** (as Just mom would write it) cake came up but what is even funnier to me is that it was Ginger (I expected it from Karen)that brought us back to the A-cake insanity. Ginger you closet cusser you. :-)

Michelle A you got me...it was ice-cream last night but since Friday when Rich left my dinners probably shouldn't really be called "dinners".

I went with tacos tonight...half way through dinner Blake said, "Mom, I think I liked last night's dinner better." Me too buddy...me too!

Hey! A** is a perfectly acceptable substitute for "ass" *gasp*. Pardon me, I've got to go to confession now.

I love the idea of ice cream for dinner! It's a great way to cool off. I can't even comprehend hot right now as we are just trying to stay about 0 here in SD. I can hardly wait for summer! Can you get lunchables there? My kids think that is such a treat. It's nutritious too! Score!

I'm adding this as number 972,001 of the reasons why I love you! You know in the Wheeler household I'm still known as the the one who got caught by little Hattie eating icecream for breakfast. In my defense, I was still in college.

You know how to make almond milk. So go ahead and whip up a batch. Use it as a [healthy] base for a cream-based soup. I know you don't want to turn on the stove but this could provide something delicious and creative for a few meals. Have the soup and some cold-cut sandwiches. That sounds like a great meal to me and not difficult.

It's so cold in NYC right now I can barely walk around without my face getting freezer burn.

Ugh...I know what you mean. The heat isn't the real problem. The real problem is actually that there is no reprieve...anywhere. I've been tempted to go sit in our car with the air con on. (Thank God I insisted on that one.) And yeah, the thought of turning the stove on...

Amy...I so relate. Part of the ice-cream idea was so I could get in the car and have some air con for a while.

I have a SA friend that still teases me about my random car drives when I was PG with Tori.

Yep our petrol expense is a tad higher during the summer months. :-)

"Assorted" Michelle! I can't believe you would a**ume I was referring to anything else! Those words just don't cross my lips. I've only learned them since meeting Karen :) The whole point was...I LOVE cake :) (hehe) I promise I won't bring it up again.
PS On a much better note, been faithful to my promise to be prayin' for you during this time. Hope this gives you added peace.

I had pizza and nachos for dinner -leftover Super Bowl food. That is worse than ice cream and doesn't taste as good either. But then again it is like 10 degrees here, who wants ice cream.

Ginger, I try not to assume as you know what they say.....

Thank you for your prayers...I can feel them!

Michelle, I couldn't find an email address for you. I don't want to put too much detail on here without her permission, but it was Kelly. Everything is fine, and if you want more detail I'd be glad to share with you through email. Mine is sal (then my last name)at msn dot com. Hopefully I won't get a bunch of random emails from that! :)

I'm sending all my "forwards" over to Lisa now that I finally have her address! hee jk.

Wow--I have such a bad rap around here--I'm so ashamed (well not really). Love you guys!

Michelle, I hope you are wearing you bathing suit all day... it makes things easy when you need a quick dip to cool off.

Michelle, ice cream for supper - for shame. Actually sounds pretty good and it kinda goes with my motto "eat dessert first" but be cautious - you don't want them to end up looking like me! You're too funny - weren't the kids hungry for at least p & b sandwich before bed?
At least we're blessed in the temperature problem. We've had to have the heat on (unusual for Florida) but it gets nice during the day and we're enjoying the change. So we don't have it too cold or too hot - how blessed are we hey?
I'd at least make it peanut butter and jelly for tonight (oh, too late, I see you made tacos) That's what I'm making Saturday when A & K and kids come over.

LOVE IT!! My kids would freak!

mmmmm.tacos! I remember Josh and Chana wanting us to send a vat of salsa and some taco seasoning to Turkey, cuz that was one kind of food they couldn't get there.

So what IS a** cake??? Am I the only one who is lost on this subject?

S, we are the same...love the mexican and NO good mexican here..food that is.

About the cussing outbreak on my blog...I apologize it is Karen and Ginger's fault. :-) Believe me you don't want to know...but if you must read my post 'African Delectables'...just know I am giving you fair warning to obstain!!

I cannot believe you blamed that whole cake thing on ME and to Shanygne! Ahhhh...she still likes me, haha. Oh well, another one has found me out. Now I guess you better be praying for me twice a day.
Hope those little gems are doing good for their mommy. Love and prayers are being lifted up. Love from cold, cold Michigan.

OK I may cuss on my own blog, but surely NEVER on anyone else's--except Sohailah's... and Mitch's... and, oh nevermind! Pray for my salvation!

Michelle,
They are having some serious FUN BLOGGING at your expense...and I'm pretty sure they are having a live conversation. Do you guys need to exchange telephone numbers?

Michelle --

Here's a supper idea for next time: peanut butter on toast, an oatmeal cookie and milk. That's what my husband fed our son tonight while I was at a meeting.
