Da Bears
Upon awaking this morning I saw a glorious statement slathered across my computer screen, “Bears Maul Saints to earn Super Bowl trip”…..much better than yesterday morning’s “I’m in it to win” statement from Hillary Clinton which made me gag!
Being from the windy city and growing up with 2 older brothers I was (am) a Bears, Bulls and White Sox fan! Yep, fellow Chicagoans I said the White Sox NOT the Cubs but this post is about da Bears I’ll save da Sox for another post!
I felt it pridefully appropriate to take a stroll down memory lane….to Super bowl XX, where da Bears won da ring (and some serious cash)! What a great team, with “the refrigerator” Perry, Jim McMahon (Mr. Cocky) the colorful Mike Ditka and my personal favorite, #34…the late great Walter Payton!
Jan 26, 1986 also marked the first and only Sunday night as a kid that my brothers and I were allowed to stay home from church (bona fide PK’s). We would sing the Super bowl Shuffle instead of choir songs that night! I still know the words….to the Super bowl Shuffle that is!
To my dear friends in Indiana….do you think we can get tickets on the street for $10 a piece day of game? Jason, get working on that paper airplane as it will be the only highlight the Colts will see! Next headlines will read; “Bears MAUL the Colts to win the Super bowl!”
So who are you rooting for to take Super bowl XLl....or do you watch purely for commercial entertainment?

I have not one clue of anything you just wrote about????? Stange considering I grew up with three brothers who all love sports...denial I guess :)
My dear and precious friend- like you I love the super bowl shuffle song, I love Chicago (especially the magnificent mile), I love Chicagoans (namely you!)- there is one point where we are going to part our ways - WE ARE GOING TO KICK YOUR BUTT!!!!! Wouldn't it be a dream if we could all meet in Miami and duke it out together? We just loved the game last night! I will tell you you're gonna have to put some prayer into this one, cause the whole Colts organization are all giving God the glory for their win and doing a lot of praying. I don't think it's hollywood "I just want to thank God" kinda stuff either. So you better pray the Bears get "saved" if you want them saved from a butt-whooping! Ha!!!! :)
I am sure Mike Ditka did a lot of praying for the last Super bowl title---HA!
By the way Ginger...I truly don't have a clue about much of the NFL...all I know is the BEARS are in the Superbowl!!!
I don't care much about the game, I just go to SuperBowl parties for the FOOD!
I'm with Michelle A...Dave can watch the game, I'll watch the commercials and eat, hurray!
I remember that game when the bears won. I am from Indy and we didn't have the Colts back then so we all rooted for the Bears. But I am sorry to say that I will be backing the Colts this time. They are awesome!! Sorry, hope we can still be cyber-friends. Good luck, you are going to need it.
I try not to watch at all!:)
Did you know Tyler Perry is from here?
Any team any city I LOVE the NFL!! I am a very pathetic sport-geek when it comes to professional football! Yesterday I made it clear to my husband that I would be cuddled up on the sofa, watching the big screen for about six hours straight! Bad mom I know but thankfully the season is about over!
As for rooting- I was hoping the Bears would make it to the Superbowl because I love their coach...Lovie Smith. I was also rooting for the Colts because I think Manning deserves to be there. As for who wins it all, since Denver isn't playing who really cares...but I have to go with the Colts. Only because I am a closet Vikings fan and it would be sac-religious of me to cheer for the Bears!
"We're not here to cause no trouble!
We're just here to do the super bowl shuffle!"
Love it!!! I once won a trivial pursuit game b/c the final question was 'what former chicago bear went by the nickname 'Sweetness?' I actually stood up and said "OH MY FREAKIN' GOSH- WALTER PAYTON!!!" and felt very cool for about 5 minutes. :-)
I'll be cheering for da bears and thinking of you!!!
They have been showing/playing the Super Bowl Shuffle over here like crazy. I have to go with Da' Bears on this one, Manning still has time in his career to win a SB ring and Lovie Smith is awesome.
Phew--I was getting worried for a while until Gayla and Marci posted. :-)
Gayla, I almost posted my favorite little part of the SS regarding "sweetness" but this is a 'mommy blog' :-) I remember you being a football fan from our Delaware Crossing days.
I will admit I like Tony Dungy but Colts fans that is all you get. :-)
I, too, have to skip over the football talk and say I finally am taking time to blog again and catch up. Thanks for sharing the stories you did - and I hope you share some of them with EW. :) I might even have to pull that beanie baby one for CFAITH! too adorable!
I have known the Arnold family since the days of my youth. I attended the same church as they all did in Watertown, SD.
I found my connection to the Everyday Mom through my dearest friend, Teresa Arnold. (One of the many Arnold wives).
Anyway, I just checked out some of the other sites and soon found myself intruding into many women's lives on a regular basis. I am facinated by the common connections we all have because of our faith and our families!
Hope you don't mind my dropping in occassionally!
Actually, I don't know why I typed Tyler Perry yesterday . . . it is actually Lovie Smith who is from here.:)
I;m with you! Not much of a football fan overall, but i have loved the bears since I was little... I can't even remember why, now, but we all loved them growing up, and WPeyton was awesome! I think I cried when he died.
As I watch I will be thinking of you! What's your favorite superbowl food??
The first Super Bowl I remember is Bears v. Patriots. I was the lonely Bears fan in Mass that night:) Along with my parents, of course! I had the Super Bowl Shuffle cassette tape, and my shoes were the autographed Walter Payton... Nike's? Can't remember. He was my favorite football player! I had the poster that they made after the win up on my wall for a long time.
As I am sure you recall, my grandfather, your Uncle Gerry, was a rabid fan, and I think that having Da Bears win would be a fitting thing this year.
So I shall be rooting for Da Bears all the way!
This is slightly complicated, btw, by the fact that my wife is a Vikings fan, and that is a big rivalry. Ah well. Da Bears deserve it!
